Teleplay means a play written or adapted for television. The Avengers is called this because it adapted the lives of spies living in England, and made it into a TV show, where the audience can see and enjoy what a spy’s daily routine is.

      7. How is editing linked to the music?

Editing is linked to the music because, the music is fasted pace to build up tension, and in the show, they use fasted paced editing for suspense and to keep the audience engaged.

   8. How are the use of props and body language used to present the characters towards the end and what are the audience expectations of the show as a result?

The use of props and body language towards the end are used to present the characters as powerful and humorous. As both characters are holding a weapon (umbrella and gun), we can see they are powerful characters. The audience then expects the characters to be good spies because they know how to fight. Their body language is also quite funny, so this presents the characters as ‘jokers’. This makes the audience expect the show to be funny.

Compare this opening sequence with the one below by picking out the similarities and differences and explaining what they suggest about how television technology has developed and how audience expectations have changed.

They both have fast paced music as it builds up suspense and tension. A difference between the two openings is that Cuffs is in colour and the Avengers is black and white. Another difference is that in the Avengers, it is all instrumental, and in Cuffs, there is instruments and someone singing.

  1. Great answers here! You have used good terminology, especially in question 4.

Have a look at your final sentence in question 5, ' In the 1960s, wearing tight leather was to be considered as pretty and sexual'.
Remember that in the 1960s, wearing tight leather was daring and reflected females feeling liberated and highly sexual.
