PSB, Scheduling, BBC homework

1. List the forms of entertainment that are competing with mainstream television channels for the audience’s attention. What this means is...compare BBC, ITV, C5, Sky TV schedules with one another. What is on at the same time and the same date?

What programmes are competing with one another. Mainstream television channels show many different types of entertainment such as: news, reality, game shows, light entertainment and different genres of tv programs. On Saturday night at 7:05, Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC 1; and on ITV at 7:05, The X Factor is on. Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor compete with each other because they are both light entertainment programs which people can listen to in the background and not have to worry about missing anything important. They are on Saturday night because it is the most popular night in the week to watch TV. The news is on every weekday at 1-1:30, and they all compete with each other so people can watch the news on any channel they want. Finally, at 9:00 on Monday evening, BBC 2, Channel 4 and Channel 5 all show documentaries, however, BBC 1 and ITV show entertainment programs. They compete with each other so people can be informed about what is happening in the world, and if they want to watch something entertaining, then they have the option too.

 2. How does Cuffs fit the BBC and PSB regulations?

Cuffs fits the BBC and the PSB regulations because one of its goals is to reflect to the UK all the different types of people and cultures to who live in it. An example of this is, one of the characters in Cuffs is a middle-eastern decent police officer. The reason that Cuffs have done this is because one of the BBC's PSB regulations is to inform and educate the world, and by including a middle-eastern decent officer, it's informing Britain's population that there are middle-eastern decent people living in Britain. Another way that Cuffs fits into the BBC and PSB regulations is by making it an entertaining programme. The final BBC's PSB regulation is to entertain, and by Cuffs making their programme enjoyable to watch, it's entertaining the public.
